Fire Program
NDF is responsible for wildfire protection statewide to approximately 26.9 million acres of Nevada’s forest and rangelands. State fire protection delivery is divided into two categories:
Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) coordinates or supervises an organized statewide system for prevention, detection, and suppression of unwanted wildfire and supports all risk emergency services within the Division’s protection districts.
-
Statewide wildfire protection responsibilities 18.6 million acres (70%) Coordinated (NRS 472).
-
NDF Fire Protection Districts 6.3 million acres (30%) supervised. Fire protection in Nevada rests with local government at the county level. The State Forester Firewarden may directly provide fire protection on behalf of the local government (NRS 473).
