Fire Adapted Nevada Partnership

Step 3 - Get Involved

Become a Fire Adapted Nevada (FAN) fire adapted community! A fire adatped community (FAC) is a community that can survive wildfire with little to no assistance from firefighters A FAC is comprised of informed and prepared citizens working together to safely coexist with wildfire. By creating your FAC, your community is more resilient to wildfire and is a safer place for firefighters to do their job. Fire Adapted Nevada, Firewise USA® and the IAFC Ready, Set, GO! programs are here to get you started. These programs work in a complementary and collaborative fashion to amplify the preparedness messages to better achieve the common goal we all share of fire adapted communities.

Fire Adapted Nevada

FAN encourages residents to take personal responsibility for preparing their property and family for wildland fire, residents become an active part of the solution. The more residents actively involved in mitigating their properties and preparing for evacuation, the greater a community’s resiliency to wildland fire. We rely on neighborhood leaders supported by our program staff and fire district personnel to help protect their communities from wildfire threat. FAN Club  Leaders can educate neighbors on ember awareness and defensible space and host wildfire preparation block parties and work days. All levels of involvement are welcome. Leaders are the cornerstone of the Fire Adapted Nevada program. The FAN Partnership can assist local residents in creating defensible space, planning wildfire evacuations, and preparing for wildfire on the neighborhood level through education and grant opportunities offered through Fire Adapted programs.

Firewise USA®

The national Firewise USA® recognition program provides a collaborative framework to help neighbors in a geographic area get organized, find direction, and take action to increase the ignition resistance of their homes and community and to reduce wildfire risks at the local level. Any community that meets a set of voluntary criteria on an annual basis and retains an “In Good Standing Status” may identify itself as being a Firewise USA® Site.
