Nevada Shade Tree Council (NSTC) Mission Statement:To promote and increase awareness of proper tree planting and care in Nevada and provide leadership, development, and support for professional and volunteer community forestry programs across the state.”For the past decade the Nevada Shade Tree Council has been a lead organization in Nevada promoting tree planting and related educational programs for tree care and maintenance. The Council, a non-profit volunteer organization, was founded to serve as the advisory council to the State Forester for the Nevada The Council’s Education Committee carries on year around activities that may include workshops, tree plantings, and the award and presentations of arboriculture resource books and materials to selected libraries around the state.

Projects include:

  • Arboriculture books have been donated to the following libraries: Carson City Library, the Las Vegas Sahara West Library, Elko Library, Yerington, White Pine County Library in Ely, Pahrump, Fallon, Boulder City, and the White Pine Bookmobile.
  • “Benefits of Urban Forestry” Slide show.
  • STOP TOPPING campaign and bumper sticker.
  • The review and recommendation of NDF Urban and Community Forestry Grant Proposals.
  • Annual Nevada Shade Tree Week Proclamation from the governor for the last week in October
  • Annual Arbor Day tree plantings around the state.

    The Nevada Shade Tree Council (NSTC) in cooperation with the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF), the USDA Forest Service, and the City of Reno Parks and Urban Forestry is sponsoring an Arborist Training Series designed to help prepare those interested in taking the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist Examination and for those interested in proper tree care techniques. The series will be three 8-hour sessions, November 3-5, 2009 at the Northeast Community Center, 1301 Valley Road, Reno

     

    The $85.00 registration fee and form are due to the NSTC no later than October 23, 2009. Agency Purchase orders are accepted, but payment must be made in advance of the training series.
