Forest Resources

Purpose

The Division of Forestry provides professional natural resource and fire services to Nevada citizens to enhance and protect forest, rangeland, and watershed values; conserve endangered plants and other native flora; and provide effective statewide fire protection and emergency management.

Programs

Forest Stewardship Program - The Forest Stewardship Program provides technical assistance to private landowners of non-industrial forestland in the state.

Forest Health Program - The Forest Health Program offers assistance to landowners in the form of education and information on forest pests and disease and ways of managing them.

Urban and Community Forestry Program - The Urban and Community Forestry(U&CF) Program seeks to raise public awareness on the value of community trees through financial, educational, and technical assistance. Programs include U&CF Grants, the Arbor Day Poster Contest, Nevada’s Tree City USAs, the Nevada Big Tree Program, and works with the Nevada Shade Tree Council.

Forest Legacy Program - The Forest Legacy Program works with private, local government and Federal programs to focus on conservation in two ways: directly supporting property acquisition; or supporting efforts to aquire donated conservation easements.

Threatened And Endangered Species Program - The Threatened and Endangered Species Program over sees all permits and appilcations regarding threatened and endangered species. Conducts public hearings regarding listing of species or not.

Biomass Program - The biomass program promotes the uses of biomass as an alternative fuel source. Coordinates the use of collection bins for chippings from project work.

Conservation Education - The Conservation Education Program helps educate the youth of Nevada in scientifically based natural resource management.
