In partnership with Carson City, the Division of Forestry provides wildland fire protection to the west side of the county. The Division has a Type 3 engine, a Type 6 engine, and a water tender stationed by the Western Nevada College in Carson City. These are staffed primarily during the fire season.
The Division’s firefighters provide a full range of fire management assistance including fire prevention, public fire safety education, hazardous fuels management, fire suppression, and fire rehabilitation. A primary focus of the fuels management efforts are the urban-interface areas and the public open space lands.

Carson City is the state capital. It is a small, but diverse county, with Lake Tahoe and heavily forested, Sierra Nevada Mountains in the west and pinyon-juniper covered Pine Nut Mountains in the east.

The Division’s firefighters have also assisted Carson City during the response and recovery efforts during the floods of January 2006 and the January 1997.
